《小宛》 Dovelets

宛彼鸣鸠， Coo,coo,turtledovelets cry.

翰飞戾天。 They flap their wings to fly.

我心忧伤， I'm weighed dowm by sorrow and sign.

念昔先人。 For my dear ancestors I pine.

明发不寐， Sleepless all night till daylight,

有怀二人。 My late parents are back in my sight.

人之齐圣， Men of wisdom and wits

饮酒温克。 stay cool even under liquids.

彼昏不知， but a muddle-headed guy

壹醉日富。 Gets drunk every day nigh.

各敬尔仪， Behave yourself and look nice!

天命不又。 God won't bless you,otherwise.

中原有菽， The fields grow lush peas.

庶民采之。 Go to pick them the plebes.

螟蛉有子， If a corn earworm a snout moth does bear

蜾蠃负之。 a parasitic wasp will take it as its heir.

教诲尔子， Your children I will teach and train

式穀似之。 So our forefather's virtues will remain.

题彼脊令， Lo,the tiny wagtails on the wing

载飞载鸣。 They flap their wings as they sing.

我日斯迈， I'm busy running about every day.

而月斯征。 The monthly travel tolerates no delay.

夙兴夜寐， Working day and night at a good pace,

毋忝尔所生。 To father's name I won't bring disgrace.

交交桑扈， Tweet,tweet,little blue birdies.

率场啄粟。 On the farm they peck millets.

哀我填寡， Pitifully sick,on no one I can rely.

宜岸宜狱。 It's annoying to be in a case of law.

握粟出卜， I grasp a handful of millets to divine,

自何能穀？ To see when good luck will knock my door.

温温恭人， Those respectful and cautious gentlemen

如集于木。 Seem clustering on the tops of trees.

惴惴小心， worried,scared,and care-laden

如临于谷。 As if on the brow of a bottomless abyss

战战兢兢， They shake as fear-stricken mice

如履薄冰。 As though treading on thin ice.

《诗经·小雅·小宛》

小小斑鸠不住鸣，
展翅高飞破苍旻。
忧伤充满我内心，
怀念祖先倍感亲。
直到天明没入睡，
想着父母在世情。

聪明智慧那种人，
饮酒也能见沉稳。
可是那些糊涂蛋，
每饮必醉日日甚。
请各自重慎举止，
否则天不佑你们。

田野长满那豆菜，
众人一起去采摘。
螟蛉如若生幼子，
蜾赢会把它背来。
你们有儿我教育，
继承祖先好风采。

看那小小的鶺鸰，
边翻飞呀边欢鸣。
天天在外我奔波，
月月在外我远行。
起早贪黑不停歇，
不辱父母的英名。

小青雀叫叽叽叽，
沿着谷场啄小米。
自怜贫病更无依，
连遇诉讼真可气。
抓把米去占一卦，
看我何时能吉利?

温和恭谨那些人，
就像聚集在树顶。
担心害怕真警惕，
就像深谷脚边近。
心惊胆战太不安，
就像踩上薄薄冰。
